Applications are now open for the 2024 TWAS-Fayzah M. Al-Kharafi Award. Named after the esteemed TWAS Fellow Fayzah M. Al-Kharafi, this annual award aims to recognize women scientists from Scientifically and Technologically Lagging (STL) countries. Generously provided by Professor Al-Kharafi, the award carries a cash prize of USD 4,000 and will rotate among various fields of science. In 2024, the award will be granted for outstanding achievements in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering Sciences.

TWAS invites nominations for the 2024 Award from all its members, as well as science academies, national research councils, universities, and scientific institutions in both developing and developed countries.

Eligibility Criteria:

- Nominations are invited in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering Sciences.

- Nominees must be female scientists, nationals of an ST-lagging country, and have resided and worked there for at least two years immediately before their nomination (i.e., from 1/2/2022).

Nomination Requirements:

A complete nomination must include the following information/material:

- Contact details of the nominator

- Contact details of the nominee (self-nominations and nominations from jury members are not accepted)

- General information about the nominee, including the country where she has been working and living in the past 2 years

- Authorization from the nominee to process her personal data for nomination purposes

- Suggested citation highlighting the nominee’s scientific achievements

- Supporting statement regarding the nominee’s contribution in either Agricultural Sciences or Biology

- Clear and detailed account of any time spent abroad by the nominee in the past two years

- PhD information (subject area, year, and awarding institution)

- Brief information on membership in academies and societies

- Brief information on awards and honors received

- List of 10 most significant publications

- The nominee’s brief CV and her complete list of publications

- The nominee’s h-index in Google Scholar and its associated number of citations
